EDMONTON
50+ SENIORS SLO-PITCH ASSOCIATION
*** Seniors In Motion ***
The Edmonton
Senior Slo-Pitch Association was created in 1983 to give seniors
(men and ladies), a venue to play slo-pitch against their peers.
We now have over 280 - 50+ seniors in our association, playing ball two
to three times a week in 3 divisions.
The first two
of these (Hirsch, and Brawner) are reformed each year by
the League Exec by way of a draft of all persons wishing to participate.
The Hirsch division is for the more skilled
players while the Brawner Division is for those players, regardless
of skill level, who play slo-pitch strictly for recreational purposes.
Each team is comprised of players like yourself who will be 50 years
of age or older this year. Each team is scheduled to play two games
a week on any two of the following evenings; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
or Thursday for a total of approximately 32 games.
The Cuthbertson division
remains the "AA"
division for 2010. It is for those players who are members
of a team who wish to compete for Provincial and National titles
and numerous tournaments during the year. This is for the highest
calibre of players. Teams are formed on their own and entered into
the league as a full team. The Cuthbertson - "AA" teams will play
at least two (2) games per week and may have double headers in 2010
The Cuthbertson Division also allows players who are
45
years and older.
For the more competitive players we also have teams of 50+, 55+,
60+, 65+ and 70+ who compete at various tournaments, Alberta Senior
Games, SPN Provincial & National events, and Senior World Series
events.
The league schedule
starts during the first week of May and ends during the last week
in August. The games are played at Airway’s Park adjacent
to Kingsway Ave. (113 St. and 113 Ave.) South of the City Center
Airport. We rent the Airways Park from the City of Edm. and have
spent numerous hours and over $400,000 in upgrades to the facility
including dugouts, fencing and sprinkler systems.
Slo-pitch is a very inexpensive
recreational activity.
